I just talked with an old friend who is going through some tough times. I’d always admired her for her vitality and drive. Today she’s 60-something and in a panic mode. Work dried up for her some time ago. She’s living from hand to mouth. She’s looking at probably losing the house she and her deceased husband had worked so hard for. It’s not for lack of trying. She worked all her adult life in offices in her home town. And, she had a good reputation for dependability. Right now, the pervasive theme in our social dealings with each other can pretty well be summed up with: What box (socio-economic niche) do I and the people I relate with belong to…Soon as I've decided that, I'll know whether you're worthy of my attention. Times are tough all over…according to some. Driving the four blocks from my home to a local restaurant to meet a friend, I noted three store fronts had sprouted new "Out of Business" signs. They seemed so out of place surrounded by what appeared to be thriving businesses and heavy foot and vehicular traffic. Along the way I passed at least a dozen busy restaurants but when I arrived at my destination, sadly, I saw this restaurant had precious few customers – even at the height of lunch hour. Rarely do I feel compelled to endorse other people or companies. And I've become very selective about who I am willing to network with. These are topics for another day. But today, I made a discovery that compels me to stand up and do one of those victory dances you see on TV football or reach real high with my right hand, grab a fist-full of air and pull down with all my might shouting "Yeeeessssss!!!"
