Meet Monte. My daughter planted Monte last year when working in a Chicago highrise office. She loves plants as much as I do. I suppose this passion for nature is embedded in our DNA. Anyway, one day she came across a seed while she was eating a grapefruit. She decided to plant it to see what would happen. As it turns out, grapefruit plants are excellent indoor plants. Fall Begins to Give Way to Winter in Chicago

This time of year here in Chicago, we take beauty wherever we can find it. Two days ago it was absolutely beautiful so I decided to treat myself to a rare visit to our local forest preserve. Admittedly this is a very rare treat with the cost of gas being prohibitive.It was a bright sunny day…one of the few gorgeous Midwestern late-autumn days of 2011.(That's right Winter doesn't actually arrive until December 22). An unexpected blizzard in Albuquerque left my daughter stranded there for 2 1/2 days. This is one of the delightful snow sculptures she enjoyed.

Winter is on its way. While I don't particularly enjoy winter in Chicago, I do appreciate the gorgeous view from my condo when the snow has just fallen. If you look real hard, you will see the Victorian-style house across the street.
