Hide and Watch

Do you find yourself growing impatient waiting for things to happen? It does seem that way too much of our time is spent waiting, doesn’t it?

Waiting for the microwave to heat a cup of coffee….waiting for the computer to reboot….waiting for a delivery…waiting for an answer to a question we think should require a simple "Yes" or "No"….waiting to find (or start) a new job…waiting….waiting…

What do you do with all that time? Multi-task? Pick up a book and read? Jot a few notes in your to-do list? Kick the cat?

If you’re anything like me, waiting seems to be a terrible waste of time, especially when that wait is keeping you from doing what you want to do — make productive use of your time and energy.

When my children were growing up, it seemed they were constantly asking impatiently, "When are we…..?"  or "When can I….?" They were always in such a hurry to move on. Back then I’d tell them, "Don’t be in such a hurry…everything will happen in good time…Hide and Watch."

Since then the tables have turned. Now I’m the one losing patience with the waiting game. I’m ready to move on…and must bide my time until everything falls into place. What a waste, I think, time is so short.

Life is indeed much too short… But  spending some time waiting can be a very good thing. It gives our spirits a chance to catch up with the frenzied life style we developed while we were learning to do the most productive thing with every waking moment. Waiting time is a gift. It’s time to regroup. It’s time to refocus. It’s time when we can just be in the moment.

With a "Hide and Watch" attitude, we learn that we don’t, after all, have to be on the go constantly. We learn that it is perfectly ok to just sit back and experience the moment…quietly. It’s ok to just be — without the need to control what’s going on around us. What a precious discovery when we learn that we really don’t have to have that level of control.

"Hide and watch" gives us permission to discover that each and every moment of our existence is sweet.
