So, you’re too old….

How old are you? 45… 57… 66? At what age do you become unproductive? Never mind what others tell you. The real question is what do YOU think.

Chester Kmiec didn’t buy into fears of age discrimination. He just kept on keepin’ on… He started working in the Department of Finance for the City of Chicago when he was 64 years old.  He just recently retired from that position…within sight of his 94th birthday.

What does that tell you? Can you give your competition a run for their money? Are you still learning? Are you still expanding and refining your skills? Are you able to look at the challenges in the marketplace as just that – challenges to be met and resolved?

Now clearly, there will be areas where you won’t excel quite as well as you did when you were 30-something. But then, do you really want to compete at that level? Surely, you’ve moved beyond that!

This troubled economy needs all the help it can get. It needs the fresh approach and stamina of the young; and, it needs the wisdom and stick-to-it-iveness of age. If you’re one of the senior workers who have been around the block a time or two and if you’ve continued to hone your particular skills and keep up with technology, you have a lot to offer.

You’re too old to fall for the belief that it’s time for you to get out of the game.
